Day 11 - Florence to Venice

Surprise surprise we left Florence today and the sun was back out which is just typical. We arrived in our hotel near Venice in the late afternoon which gave us enough time to catch a train into the city to do some exploring. The city is beautiful and like nowhere else we have ever seen. As Venice is essentially a city built out in the sea, don't expect to see any cars driving around – instead there is one main canal with hundreds of little narrow “streets” for the boats and gondolas to navigate around. Like other cities they do have taxi's only they are not your typical car, they are instead very fast taxi boats!! The main canal seemed like their version of the M8 motorway.

As we were only here for a few hours we ditched our map and wandered around to discover whatever we could. We seen the Ponte Rialto bridge which is the most famous bridge in Venice with it being the oldest one, and like the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence, it has little shops built along it.

We strolled around Venice's narrow passages and walked over lots of bridges as the small waterways breakup the city's beautiful buildings. If you've ever seen the movies you'll know what we are talking about. We've got some pictures below. We only covered a small part of Venice today to leave some for Sam's birthday tomorrow.
