Day 13 - Lake Garda & Verona

Thirteen, lucky for some, unlucky for us. Our thirteenth day of the trip took us to see Lake Garda, so we arrived as planned in Peschiera Del Garda which is at the south end of the lake. As its a tourist area we thought it would be easy to navigate our way around but as we got off the train there was no information whatsoever so we just headed down to the marina. Eventually we found the ferry which stops around the lake, but by the time we got there the next boat wasn't for another 2 hours!! So we decided to try and get the bus to take us up to Garda further up the lake. The trains in Italy are amazing, the boats are not so good but the buses were just awful!! After waiting for over an hour for a bus to arrive, we decided to make the most of our time at the lake so we just went for a lovely meal and some drinks down by the water. Today has also been our hottest day so far with temperatures of up 40 degrees in the sun which slightly made up for our lack of good transport.

As we couldn't get up the lake we decided to rescue the remainder of our day so jumped on a train to Verona which is only 10 min away. As it was a reasonably small place we walked into the centre to see the sights. We first headed to the roman amphitheatre which holds many concerts and performances in what is an ancient building!! As we got inside we were greeted with workmen setting up a large stage and music equipment which gave us an idea of what a concert would be like there and it would make a great venue to see bands playing.

Verona is also famous for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet so we went to see Juliet's balcony which is in a small courtyard in the town centre. Here's some pictures of the balcony and Verona.

Our day started off with rubbish transport and ended with it too as the train we were on seemed at first to have mechanical problems before proceeding to then stop at every tiny train station along the way. A journey which had taken us an hour in the morning, took us over 2 hours!! We were absolutely shattered by the time we got back to our hotel so took some time to relax as we plan another trip to hopefully see more of Lake Garda tomorrow.
