Day 16 - Ljubljana

Getting up about lunch time we made our way into Ljubljana to see the sights only to be met with an overcast sky and MORE RAIN but we had to keep going or we'd miss this marvellous city. We trekked around seeing the Dragon Bridge, the Town Hall and the river. The river is usually a beautiful clear blue/green colour but had turned brown from all the recent downpours! A tourist train gave a small tour of the city before heading up to Ljubljana Castle where we could get off for a look. The castle looked beautiful when we were down in the city but when we arrived we were slightly disappointed. The castle was being restored as it had suffered significant damage over the years with it also being used as a jail about 500 years ago. This meant there were lots of newly built parts of the castle taking away some of the authentic nature evident in the rest of the city.

We had a lovely stroll around the city centre, then got a really nice meal in a trendy restaurant and gazed at the city before heading back to the hostel for a rest until heading out at night.

The hostel was absolutely brilliant, spotlessly clean and the people were really cool. The owner was so helpful giving us lots of information, much better than our experience in Nice!!! (which was actually meant to be a hotel)

The city was just as beautiful at night with all the buildings lit up and the bars full of people. After a long day we headed back for another sleep as we are off to Lake Bled tomorrow. (also in Slovenia)
