Day 24 - Prague

Yesterday we covered much of the lower part of Prague, but today we made our way over the Charles Bridge and up the hill to the castle. We again hopped on the brilliant trams into the city centre which to our surprise was much busier than at the weekend. The stag do's had moved out and the hoards of tourists had moved in making it more difficult to navigate around.

We had some food and made our way over to the magnificent Charles Bridge which crosses the River Vltava. This ancient bridge has 2 towers at each side and is lined by lots of little statues and gives a wonderful view of the river and the castle perched on the hill. ALthough it doesn't look like a steep hill, it was a struggle in the stuffy heat we had today. We eventually made it to the top to get some great views over the city rooftops, the beautiful palace buildings and large cathedral which dominates the skyline of the hill. The interior of the cathedral is similar to the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris but is much brighter inside lighting up the whole building. The palace grounds have lots of cool buildings so we spent some time looking around before the heavens opened... Thankfully it wasn't on for long so we made our way down the hill back into the city.

As we reached the bottom, a menacing looking cloud appeared behind us so that signalled the time to stop in somewhere for a drink. This time though the rain was much heavier so we sat it out in a bar, enjoying our beer and the time to rest our legs.
